![]() This week we hear from 2014's StarMaker winner Jared Porter. Born in the US but raised in Australia, Jared Porter has a unique but familiar modern country sound that can be traced all the way back through his childhood. Listening to oldies rock, country and blues with his dad to alternative rock of the new millennium has all played a vital roll in developing this sound. Gaining inspiration from singers like Gary Levox (Rascal Fats), Billy Currington, Marc Cohn and Jon Forman (Switchfoot), his voice has the familiar tone of many of those who have gone before him, yet a recognisable sound that stamps Jared Porter. The experiences through his unique and at many times tough life have played a part in the development of this up-and-coming singer-songwriter, and in turn his new modern sound. Hear Jared in conversation with Walshy below. ![]() Hamish and Lachlan Davidson grew up in the rural Victorian town of Yinnar. Raised in a musical family, the brothers began playing music and performing from a young age. With seven albums under their belt, they have built the reputation of being one of Australia’s hottest bluegrass acts – multi instrumentalists on banjo, fiddle, mandolin and great entertainers with an enormous respect for the traditions of the genre. Their latest album, Wanderlust, remains steeped in bluegrass tradition, along with a dash of folk and roots, and is patented with Davidson Brothers’ live energy. Catch Hamish in conversation with Walshy in the audio player below. ![]() No pigeon hole is big enough to encompass Terry’s style, but ‘Modern Cowboy Punk Folk Rock Pop’ is getting somewhere close. 2013 Male vocal winner of the Country Capital Music Association awards in Tamworth, and like his peers, Terry is an honest to goodness singer songwriter with a knack for truthful, tongue in cheek storytelling and a passion to please his live audience. After a decade of writing and performing on stages around the globe from Brisbane to London and many places in-between, Terry spent the next decade in hiatus’ providing for his loved ones. Now, Terry Clark has returned - armed with meaningful, toe tapping, sing along boogie from the bush! ![]() The McClymonts are back. Brooke, Sam and Mollie return with their fourth album Here’s To You & I and once again, it’s filled with heartfelt stories, irresistible tunes and that unmistakable honesty. The multi-talented musicians from Grafton have come a long way since their 2007 debut album Chaos and Bright Lights. They picked up the ARIA for Best Country Album in 2010, then topped it in 2012 with third album Two Worlds Collide which won again the Best Country Album at the ARIAs. They also picked up eight Golden Guitar Awards and an APRA Award along the way, and won countless fans and critics as they toured extensively around Australia and the USA. Then it all stopped. When eldest sister Brooke announced her pregnancy in 2012, the girls weren’t sure what it would mean for the group. It turned out to be a blessing... they're refreshed and ready to go again. |
